Planning a boating day for a birthday, with friends or a peaceful weekend getaway is a wonderful idea. In Singapore, you can enjoy coastal cruises, island-hopping adventures and even yacht charters in small groups. But, while selecting the right yacht is critical for a fantastic experience, you shouldn’t pick one blindly in your excitement. You must think about the size and features of the boat and set a realistic budget. It will also benefit you to have an idea of the yacht’s pros and cons to avoid uncomfortable situations or unexpected expenses.
Choose a Yacht Based on the Size of your Party
Selecting a Yacht Based on the Number of Guests and Activities
The type of yacht charter you will enjoy on your special day depends on the number of guests. So, make sure there will be enough space for everyone to sit and relax comfortably, and you can get around without bumping into other people.
Consider Onboard Activities and Guest Comfort
Discuss what kind of activities your guests wish to engage in. If they want to swim and snorkel, inquire if the yacht’s design facilitates these water activities. If your guests enjoy a more laid-back boat ride, they may appreciate reclining chairs and shaded areas on board.
It’s a good idea to clarify the total number of passengers allowed on the yacht, as it may appear larger than it is when the photoshopped picture is posted online
Research on the Full Charter Cost
The total cost of the experience includes the yacht charter cost, activities, and additional amenities. Unfortunately, you might assume that any of the available packages can support the number of people you are bringing, and the activities you would like to experience with them.
Check Additional Charges and Yacht Charter Packages
So, ask your yacht charter company to provide a detailed break down of their additional package and know precisely what to expect from their services. Some companies charge extra for food and drinks, while others provide them for free. Furthermore, it will be helpful to know if the yacht charter company charges more if the trip exceeds the specified time.
Compare Charter Duration and Overall Value
The short-term rate might seem costly, but it could provide more time for the activities your guests are most excited about. Always keep in mind that a longer duration boat trip may seem more expensive at first but a perfect value for the duration and activities included.
Plan on Your Route and Activities Around the Singapore Hotspots
When it comes to popular sights in Singapore, you can’t go wrong with a scenic boat tour. Moreover, the specific itineraries your party will experience during the cruise might take priority over the boat itself. So, the main question to ask the yacht charter company is about the estimated arrival time at your desired destinations. If your schedule is tight, ask the yacht charter company if the route can be adjusted so the destinations are closer and more accessible.
Consider Weather Conditions and Alternative Sailing Routes
The weather forecast can also play a role in which itineraries are available on your trip date. Therefore, it’s worth knowing if bad weather affects the original plan or if the tour guide can recharture the boat to another destination if the sea is too rough to navigate.
Review Safety Measures & Other Onboard Facilities
You will have a fantastic time on board only if the captain knows how to navigate narrow canals and unpredictable seas and offers first-aid facilities. So, it’s essential to ask the yacht charter company if the captain can take bigger yachts in adverse or unpredictable weather conditions.
Check Accessibility and Safety for All Passengers
If you are traveling with young children or elderly family members, it will be necessary to ask if the yacht’s design caters to the accessibility needs of particular passengers and if there are enough safety measures on board.
Furthermore, if any of your guests are not confident or skilled at swimming, make sure that they will not be in over their head during the boat tour. You can also compare luxury yacht charter Singapore options and facilities on their websites and identify the ideal boat for your group.

Pack the Right Essentials for Your Yacht Trip
In addition to knowing the number of guests that your boat can accommodate, it may be necessary to bring additional items to avoid disappointment on the day of your departure. For example, your guests may bring their sunscreen, straw hats, and flip-flops to make their experience on the boat more enjoyable.
Understand Booking Policies and Special Guest Requirements
Additionally, it is essential to understand what facilities and experiences are not included as additional services and are not covered in the cost of the base charter package. Always make inquiries about the rules and regulations governing deposits, refunds, cancellations, and rescheduling to avoid disappointment and unwanted expenses. Lastly, if you have guests with specific dietary and personal care needs, such as requiring certain medication, you should bring that to the attention of the yacht charter company.
